First the White House, then the world? Netflix sure seems to be taking over. Now, they are in negotiations with both the 44th President and First Lady about creating original content.
According to The New York Times, this negotiation between the two parties have reached an advanced stage. The two will join forces to,
“Produce a series of high-profile shows that will provide him (President Obama) a global platform after his departure from the White House.”
What this means exactly, we don’t know. However New York Times’ sources did say,
“Mr. Obama does not intend to use his Netflix shows to directly respond to President Trump or conservative critics.”
A couple of show ideas being kicked around include:
- Barack Obama hosting a panel where he tackles issues that plagued his presidency
- Michelle Obama hosting something nutrition-related
Besides featuring the two of them in content, the Obamas would also add their vision or endorsement to content that is aligned with the power couple’s values.
Obama is hoping to reach the 118 million plus Americans who use Netflix as it continues to grow. Perhaps his appearance as the first guest of the new David Letterman show, And My Next Guest is what got this ball rolling.
Either way, we will keep you updated as this story unfolds.
