We mentioned about two months ago that PlayStation Vue was looking to make sports more of a priority for its streaming service. Their first venture came in the form of an in-and-out on business relationship with beIN Sports. PlayStation Vue was looking to up their sports offerings with these network of channels. However, it was not to be. Days after the announcement, the partnership ceased.
Although that partnership quickly fizzled, PlayStation Vue instead started ramping up additions of local affiliates to their services. This would still allow for more sports content to be viewed, just on a more local level. If anything, this may have been a bigger coup for PlayStation Vue, as these types of sporting events are more sought after than the offering of beIN Sports.
Now, the Sony-based streaming service is adding real-time scores to games. As you hover over a game selection, the score will pop up to see if its worth tuning in to see. That way, if your favorite team is being blown away, you can avoid the heartbreak of turning it on. This feature is handy but also a spoiler waiting to happen. Therefore, you can turn it off to avoid ruining the game.
Head of Product at PlayStation Vue, Dan Myers, spoke on the latest feature,
“Our team is currently hard at work to bring even more new features to PS Vue. Coming soon, real-time sports scores will be added to help you know the games to watch. You can also turn off spoiler alerts if you are waiting to watch the big game. Stay tuned for more information on the additional sports features we’re adding to PS Vue.”
This feature is available through PlayStation Vue on devices such as the PlayStation 4, Android TV, Fire TV Box, and the Fire Stick. The company is looking to roll out the feature on Apple TV and Roku in time for NFL season.
