How to Watch Movies for Free on the Internet

If you’re a cord-cutter, you’ve probably considered risking a virus or two downloading a torrent. Luckily, in the Age of Cord Cutting, this no longer has to be an option. There are many ways to watch a movie for free that doesn’t include buying a booster off someone who recorded the flick in the movie theater. Here is how to watch everything form newbies to classics for free on the internet.

Watch Movies for Free on Sony Crackle

Sony purchased the two-year-old Crackle back in 2007. However, the last couple of years they have finally started to do something with their investment.

Crackle does have some television including old classics such as:

  • Bewitched
  • I Dream of Jeanie
  • Just Shoot Me
  • The Michael J. Fox Show
  • Who’s the Boss?

However, Sony Movies is the specialty of this streaming service. This archive is absolutely massive.

Browse A to Z or by Genre:

  • Action (3,000 Miles to Graceland, The Legend of Zorro, S.W.A.T.)
  • Comedy (Hanging Up, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, My Girl)
  • Drama (The Blue Lagoon, Fight Club, Girl, Interrupted)
  • Thriller (Apt Pupil, The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Night of the Living Dead)

They also have sections for anime and Crackle Originals which includes Joe Dirt 2 with David Spade.

Watch Movies for Free on Pluto TV

Pluto TV is an endeavor founded by Viacom. In hopes to salvage their business that was destroyed by the cable television industry, Viacom has put many of their resources into this free television project.

This free service live streams classic television and movies. They have a scheduled line up that you can scroll on the bottom of their screen and choose between retro channels such as:

  • MTV
  • MTV Hills
  • Comedy Central Stand Up
  • Spike Outdoors
  • CBS News Live
  • FOX Sports
  • AAA Wrestling
  • More

Besides television on a live stream, Pluto TV also has a vault of on-demand movies. They have about 50 popular classic titles including:

  • Legally Blonde
  • The Mexican
  • Dinner at Schmucks
  • Requiem for a Dream
  • Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey

While Pluto TV’s movie library isn’t as extensive as Sony Crackle, it is a great option for television. They offer unique alternatives to the shopping and sports heavy cable packages.

Watch Movies for Free on Vudu

Vudu is mostly known as a paid service to watch movies. However, they do dangle a carrot or two out there that might be just enough to satiate the movie pallette of a cord-cutter.

The free services are ad supported. However, they do offer a decent variety of titles to choose from.

Currently, their catalog boasts content such as:

  • Sherlock Holmes
  • Groundhog Day
  • Anaconda
  • Annabelle
  • Julie & Julia

What’s convenient about Vudu is that it gives you a more extensive breakdown of the movies before choosing them. You can preview the trailer before watching and even check out the Rotten Tomatoes score! Perhaps our favorite category is a section called, “Titles Not on Netflix.”

Watch Movies for Free on Tubi

Tubi is a fairly young service, starting back in 2012. However, it’s gained a lot of traction, procuring over 12,000 titles. They currently have a lucrative partnership with powerhouses in film and television.

Affiliates of Tubi include:

  • NBCUniversal
  • Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer
  • Paramount Pictures
  • Lionsgate
  • Warner Bros.
  • Studio 100
  • Shout Factory
  • Nelvana
  • DHX Media

With that being said, you’re not getting the biggest blockbusters of all time. The downfall a robust catalog is that the quality isn’t the highest.

You can expect to see titles on Tubi such as:

  • The Tuxedo
  • Anger Management
  • Soaked in Bleach
  • The Haunting in Connecticut 2
  • I Spit on Your Grave 2 and 3 (Regrettably not #1)

What you’ll notice with Tubi is that there are a lot of interesting looking independent movies out there with big named actors that we never heard about. Look out for Prince Avalanche with Paul Rudd and You’re Not You with Hilary Swank.
