Here’s how to watch HBO without cable.

How to Watch HBO with HBO Now

HBO has two apps. They have relatively misleading names which would might provoke you to download the wrong one at first. Don’t worry. No money will be exchanged before you realize that you downloaded the wrong one. Take that bit of advice from the voice of experience!

Differences Between HBO Now and HBO Go

Let’s start with the app you don’t want to download. Make sure you do not download the HBO Go app. We know. HBO Go sounds like you’re on the move and can watch it anywhere. Well, you can. That is, as long as you have a cable subscription.

The only caveat is that besides Vice News Tonight, no show is streamed live. You must wait for 24-hours after airing to watch most HBO content.

How to Get HBO Go

To use HBO Go, you must select your cable provider. From there, you have to log-in using the credentials you created when you signed up for the cable account. Therefore, this is of no use to cord-cutters, unless you download through the Amazon store.

As an Amazon member, you can subscribe to HBO Go without a cable provider. It’s $14.99 per month, which is the same price as HBO Now. You also have access to all the same features. That makes this whole thing even more convoluted.

How to Use HBO Now

Instead of HBO Go, be sure to download the HBO Now. Wouldn’t that be a fitting name for someone with a cable subscription? Guess not…

HBO Now allows you access to all of the latest HBO shows within 24-hours of airing. It doesn’t have a live stream and costs $14.99 per month.

You can download HBO Now to many smart TVs. However, there’s also an option for it on PlayStation Vue. With that being said, you can no longer get any HBO incarnations through Sling TV. Earlier this year, the cable television powerhouse decided to pull all HBO content, as well as their Cinemax affiliates.

How to Watch HBO on Hulu

HBO is an add-on for Hulu subscribers. You can either subscribe to Hulu’s basic package. This tier is $5.99 per month. If you are a Sprint subscriber, that cost would be free. From there, HBO is an additional $14.99 to your monthly bill. Note that Sprint doesn’t cover your HBO.

If you want to become a Hulu subscriber and are looking to cut the cord, Hulu also offers a live television option. Hulu Live TV is $44.99 per month. Sprint subscribers can also save $5.00 on this option as part of their partnership with the streaming giant.
