Other Companies’ Content is Netflix’s Cash Cow?

Netflix is number 1. That is an undeniable statement. However, it’s not the countless hours of content that release at a rapid pace that is drawing in the people…its the content that they license.

Research firm, 7Park Data, has confirmed that 80% of Netflix viewers actually watch content from other companies rather than Netflix Originals. Of Netflix subscribers, 42% watch almost all licensed content with just 18% only watching Netflix originals. The top titles on Netflix are:

  • The Blacklist
  • Breaking Bad
  • The Flash
  • Friends
  • Grey’s Anatomy
  • How I Met Your Mother
  • The Office
Even if a popular show like Stranger Things drops, while it does garner more eyes, 63% of viewing still went to licensed content, while when Black Mirror season 3 dropped, 88% of viewing was licensed content.
