Netflix Originals Coming in August

We are more than halfway through July which means that another month’s worth for Netflix Originals will be coming your way in a couple of weeks. Here is a bunch of new content for your binging pleasures as the hot summer days start to fizzle out.

Icarus (Documentary)

Scandal seems to follow Russia around everywhere these days. However, before meddling in the election became the key target on the back of Russia, it was the doping scandal related to the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio. Originally designed to be a documentary about doping in general, Director and amateur bike racer, Bryan Fogel, decided that he needed to see for himself if doping improved his endurance. It was then he enlisted in Russian scientist, Dr. Grigory Rodchenkov to assist him. From there, the cover on Russia’s doping for the Olympics was blown. Icarus debuted at the Sundance Film Festival. Netflix paid a whopping $5 million for rights to the production.

Voltron (Season 3)

This reboot of the 1984 animated classic will now enter its third season. This season will further examine characters on the show as well as bring onboard a few new enemies.

Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later

This iconic movie took place on the last day of camp. When Netflix rebooted the title and made it into a limited series a couple of years ago, it focused on the first day of camp. Now, Netflix is journeying ten years into the future. Mega stars like Kristen Wiig, Paul Rudd, David Hyde Pierce, Elizabeth Banks, Amy Poehler, and Chris Pine will reprise their roles. Enjoy this ride while it lasts, because it will most likely be the last time the Wet Hot American Summer franchise will be visited.

Atypical (Season 1)

This new Netflix Original focuses on Sam, played by Gil Kierchrist, who is an older teen with autism. This is a coming-of-age story as Sam attempts to find himself through his struggles. However, he is constantly hitting a brick wall in his progress thanks to his overbearing mother, who is played by Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Naked

Starring Marlon Wayans, this movie is about a man who wakes up everyday in an elevator…naked. Much like Groundhog Day, Marlon goes through the same scenario every morning. Just this time, he must do it in the buff and deal with the many people he encounters while in a state of undress.

Marvel’s The Defenders (Season 1)

The Marvel-Netflix marriage continues on with the release of The Defenders. This series will bring together other hit Netflix title characters Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist. Together, this foursome will battle a group called The Hand. This endeavor will probably lead to future crossovers for all four title characters.

Death Note

We released the trailer a few weeks ago. The countdown to Death Note is on. This manga-inspired movie follows a vigilante who realizes that when he write the name of somebody in the Death Note, that they will die.

Disjointed (Season 1)

The last Netflix Original of the month is a comedy produced by Chuck Lorre, of Two and a Half Men and Big Bang Theory fame, and David Javerbaum, of The Daily Show. Starring Kathy Bates, this stoner comedy will run for 20 episodes, which is much longer than most Netflix series. The show follows Bates’ character who manages a marijuana clinic that does unusual therapeutic work.
