Sorry comic books fans. If you were excited about the TV adaptation of the Joe Hill comic, Locke & Key, it’s not happening…yet. Originally, this project was set to air on Hulu. However, the streaming giant turned down the project after receiving the pilot.
Along with Crash and Burn, Locke & Key was the last two remaining Hulu pilots on their docket. Crash and Burn was passed on back in December. Every other series from Hulu was given a greenlight for a full season off the bat. The last pilot to hit Hulu first was Marvel’s Runaways, which they signed onboard with.
Many thought Locke & Key would come to fruition because the project originally received a blinking green light. A full writer’s team was assembled as they churned out about seven backup scripts in case the project gets picked up.
Co-star in the pilot, Samantha Mathis stated that the project is not dead.
“It’s getting shopped around to Amazon and Netflix and Apple and everyone right now.”
Mathis was set to star alongside stars like Danny Golver, Megan Charpentier and Owen Teague.
Many are shocked that Hulu is letting this series go. Following the success of The Handmaid’s Tale, which has caused quite the buzz for season two, Hulu has been looking to create more original content. Perhaps, the franchise is snakebitten. After all, this show was originally written as a pilot, and passed on by FOX, back in 2010.
