Disney has sure been busy getting into the cord-cutting world. Not only have the started planning a Disney and Pixar movie streaming service set to launch in 2019, but they are also looking to launch an ESPN streaming service sometime next year.
However, with their partnership with Netflix coming to an end, Disney is also starting to examine even more niche platforms for their popular franchises. According to Disney’s CEO, Bob Iger, the possibility of a Star Wars and Marvel streaming service is being considered.
Following the great success of original Marvel programming on Netflix, Disney has the opportunity to expand the comic book franchise. They are already starting to weave together story arcs from separate comic books with their The Defenders spinoff dropping recently on Netflix. Taking what they have learned, Disney is starting to realize that they can create niche streaming services for all types of fans.
