Once upon a time, streaming television shows from broadcast networks that are over-the-air (OTA) were a novelty. However, that was the bread and butter for many streaming services. Since streaming has blown up, network content has taken the backseat and creating original content has become the new norm.
While Netflix is way ahead of the pack in terms of original content, to the tune of 2 originals released per day, Hulu is holding strong in second place.
Following the resounding success of The Handmaid’s Tale, which is set to drop season 2 later this month (watch trailer 1 and trailer 2 here), Hulu announced that they were looking to create even more content.
One of these endeavors is called Catch-22. The limited series is based on the book and is set in Italy during World War II. Since the beginning stages of production, George Clooney was tapped to play a starring role as the character, Colonel Cathcart. Now we can confirm that Hugh Laurie of House fame will be starring alongside the Hollywood hotshot.
Chief Content Officer of Hulu, Joel Stillerman, spoke about this project,
“‘Catch-22′ is a rare story that has withstood the test of time, not only as a literary masterpiece, but as a story that still resonates in today’s political and social conversation. These are exactly the types of stories we want to be programming at Hulu, and we couldn’t be happier to partner with George Clooney, Paramount TV and this phenomenal group of creatives to bring one of the most well-known books of all time to viewers in a way that has never been seen before.”
The exact release date of this series is yet to be determined. However, Hulu has led us to believe that it will drop sometime this calendar year.
