Cord Cutting is Continuing to Grow

Research conducted by the Leichtman Research Group found that only 79% of homes in the United States subscribe to some form of pay-TV service. This is a big drop from three years earlier when the same study found that 84% of homes had pay-TV services.

However, homes with TV services increased 1% this year. This means more people are watching television, and the minority is quickly growing into the majority.

This has become especially easier with the birth of skinny bundles. This is being done by channels like Discovery, who have seen 11.2% drop in distribution due to cable dropping them from packages.

Further research conducted by Leichtman found that the leading United States pay-TV operators finished their second quarter just under 90.7 million subscribers, which is down 2.9 million, or 3% from the previous quarter.
