There are two main obstacles in the way of people cutting the cord- sports and news. With many streaming services offering an endless array of sports content, not to mention Disney/ESPN’s upcoming over-the-top service, CBS is looking to marry the two.
Instead of pushing for live sports content exclusively, CBS is looking to start a streaming service focusing more on talk and news.
According to CBS Interactive President and COO, Marc Debevoise, CBS sees a “big play” in the sports news and talk realm through mobile devices. He further feels that the CBS name lends additional credit to this endeavor.
With ESPN looking to feature approximately 10,000 live games both domestically and internationally, CBS Interactive is looking to set themselves apart. They feel that ESPN has the action covered, but is lacking in the analysis department. This is where they hope to fill the gap.
CBS will be implementing the structure outlined by CBSN to pull off this new feat. This project is expected to come to life by the end of the year.
