Amazon Prime Growing Video Service as They Target India

Hot off the heels of the huge success that was Prime Day, Amazon is looking to grow their Video service across the globe. Their next major target? India.

Six months after the delivery service and streaming giant launched in India, Amazon is releasing content aimed at the Indian demographic. With $5 billion dollar invested in this growth opportunity, Amazon has vouched to launch at least 17 original series in the Middle Eastern country over the next few years. This coming Monday, the first Indian original will be released.

Inside Edge follows the struggles of a cricket team who plays for the Powerplay League. It is produced by Bollywood actor Farhan Akhtar’s company, Excel Entertainment. It stars local Indian actors Richa Chada and Vivek Oberoi.

Taking this project seriously, Amazon sent producers and scriptwriters from successful shows on their platform such as Transparent, to conduct workshops for Indian writers. Typically in India, most shows consist of 100 episodes. So, the local writers needed to be trained for limited episode arcs such as the ten episode cutoff that season 1 of Inside Edge will be.
